2014 poll: APC endorses Fayemi for second term

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has endorsed Governor Kayode Fayemi as its governorship candidate for the state in the June 21 election.

The party also said it would ensure that all its members were duly registered during the forthcoming membership registration commencing on February 5.

The Interim Chairman of APC in the state, Chief Jide Awe, while addressing journalists at the party’s Secretariat in Ado Ekiti on

Thursday, said, “We are going to ensure that we capture all members of the party during the registration exercise in Ekiti State.
“The opposition should stop castigating the party and branding it as lacking in internal democracy over non-conduct of primary.

“There is no doubting the fact that APC is rich in internal democracy. We had taken the decision that Governor Kayode Fayemi should be allowed to re-contest as far back as 2012 at the residence of our leader and APC National Vice-Chairman, South-West, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, in Iyin Ekiti.

“This is in order for the ongoing transformation in Ekiti to continue unabated. I want to say emphatically that a party may adopt a candidate without primary. All we need to do is to follow due process and at the appropriate time, we will do the official affirmation of his candidature and send it to INEC for listing.”

He said party members across the 16 local government areas of the state had been directed to adhere to the Ekiti State Signage and Advertisement Law as well as the electoral law on the pasting of posters and billboards before the stipulated election date.

Awe stated, “I have directed our members in all the councils to comply with the directives from the two agencies. There are existing laws guiding the pasting of posters and erection of billboards for election. Whoever flouts them will incur the wrath of the law”.
